Harvey Jay Dodgson rocked the Camden Assembly

Watching a live rock show is great, but watching an additional rock show before the main rock show, is even  better. Harvey Jay Dodgson and his band rocked the Camden assembly with their lively music on the 29th of November 2023. It was the 5th gig in which they supported Tom A Smith in his 2023 headline tour. An absolutely brilliant set, which energized the audience and warmed them up for the main act, on a cold Wednesday night.

Harvey didn’t mess about. He got the audience rocking right from the first moment, with his song “Kids on the firing line” which is still unreleased.  It was followed by Marilyn Rose, a song from his new EP “Alligator” which got the audience singing and bouncing.

 

 

Freedom for Freedom

Come on Harvey, you have to release this little gem. Freedom was the second unreleased song in the set and the audience already knew it and loved it. It’s a really catchy rock song that needs to get out there and be discovered by radio DJ’s. Arguably the best song out of the whole set.

 

 

The set included 7 songs from his new EP “Alligator”, which is an absolutely brilliant release overall. Each of those 7 songs could have been a single. Marilyn Rose, Indigo, You Belong To Me, Caroline, For The Love Of It, Tell Me and of course Alligator. After a wild start, he got the tempo down with Indigo and the beautiful ballad You Belong To Me, before getting the audience bouncing again with Caroline and then the title track from his new EP. There is a part in Alligator which sounds like a mixture of rock and hip hop and it works perfectly well.

 

Harvey and his band delivered a set of feel-good, high energy rock songs, as well as a couple of low tempo tunes. They entertained the audience with their music and great stage presence. It was an incredible way to build up to the main act of the night. They’re supporting Tom A Smith again on Sunday the 3rd of December at Turnbridge Wells Forum and Monday 4th of December at Cambridge Blue Moon.

Harvey’s next headline gig is in Portsmouth at the Wedgewood Rooms on the 28th of March 2024. Tickets are on sale now.
