A confident songwriter on the counter attack
Tom A. Smith enters a new era with Fashion

After a long wait, Tom A. Smith has finally made his first release in 2025. His new single, Fashion, is his first release since he singed the record deal with Fiction.
It’s also his first release since he took a different approach to songwriting, in my opinion. And that probably happened before he signed the record deal. After the release of his single I Don’t Want You To Have To Remember Me For Longer Than You Ever Knew Me, which was his most powerful - emotional song, it looks like Tom A. Smith entered a new era of songwriting. Going from deeply emotional personal songs, to more energetic, punchy, punk rock songs, with elements of arrogance, sarcasm and humour in the lyrics. That's a confident songwriter on the counter attack there. And always with live shows in mind. He has more purpose and strategy now in his songwriting, than ever before. And there are more unreleased songs with a similar description, which might come out later.
In the song, he makes a reference to drink prices in London, which definitely rings a bell. I was at his headline show at Colours Hoxton last May, when he expressed his amazement at the offer price for vodka and Red Bull.
Fashion is a catchy rock song with clever and sharp lyrics, produced to lift the crowd in live shows. As Tom is becoming more and more of a showman, he writes songs that enable him to create the best possible atmosphere and get his fans engaging. It's a song that he performs without a guitar. It's now almost two years since he started trying to improve his stage presence by singing without the guitar and he has made a lot of progress. He's also building up a collection of songs with references to drinks, after Boltcutters and Get Me Started.
This August, he makes his big comeback to The Firestation, in Sunderland
